Access to Obelisk Of Lost Souls

June 27th, 2007 by rosehebe

This is a guide to getting into the Obelisk of Lost Souls with the intention of gathering the draconic runes for the lvl 45+ Hallmark Speak as a Dragon quest.

You’ll want at least 2-3 people to do these quests, and the more you have the faster it’ll go.

Step 1) Gain access to the actual Obelisk

Get the quest from the skeleton in front of the zone in. Then proceed to slaughter every Shadowed man in the cave. Each name has a set of shadowed men it spawns from, but since most of the names have more than one such spawn, it is simply expedient to just kill every single shadowed man. This step can take a couple of hours, longer obviously if you have fewer folks clearing.

Once you’re able to enter you’ll see one door to the creator area which you can’t use, and another which you can to the left. One of the runes is in the area to the left.

After you go down the stairs, head to the right and take the ramp down into a room on your left. There should be a book here which gives you the next quest.

The harbringer is always up and can be found down the branch that you passed going to the book that didn’t ramp down.

The other four named mobs have placeholders. Generally speaking these placeholders are evil-eyes.

-The zombie room has a patrolling eyeball placeholder.
-The “Sentry” - Evil-eye is on the left side of the room with 3-4 groups of evil-eyes. It is also a placeholder. Notice that this room has many other sets of evil eyes and a door at the bottom. There is a similar room with a door at the top that is not the correct one.

-The patrolling evil-eye in the big open room with the many sets of shadowedmen along the walls is also a placeholder. (if you’re not sure if its the right room, rest easy there’s only two evil-eyes that patrol and both are placeholders.)

-There is a room with 2 sets of 3 shadowed men that rarely has an Evil-eye mixed in. That is a placeholder as well.

Kill those four placeholders until the named pops, then kill the named. Be aware that these names, while grey @ 50, are generally strong enough that a single level 50 player can’t win, and even two could have a tough time of it. This step can take multiple clearings. Also, be aware that if your group doesn’t consist primarily of level 49-50s, many of the mobs in here are 42-43 and thus can turn green easily. More green mobs can hamper travel between spawn locations.

Step 3) Return to the book: Summon the Creator. Slay the Creator.

You now have access to the entire obelisk, and can let other unkeyed folks in at will.

It can still be tricky progressing, and all the mobs past the Creator’s door are green + to 50 so read on.

Step 4) Find and Slay the Keeper of Nihility:

(Not a step on the quest, just required to progress)- As you enter the area past the creator door, you’ll see a lot of doors. Each of these is a one way door and leads to a mini-maze. Enter any of these doors then proceed across the maze (watching out for Labryinth Keeper which sees invis). Only two doors are open inside the maze, so cross the maze and exit out of whichever you found. As you exit you should see a corner to your immediate left or right and a closed door. Beyond the third door should be a “Y” shaped room leading down. Be careful crossing into this room, as you can fall through the floor for no apparent reason. Jumping across the threshold is advised. At the bottom of the path is the Keeper of Nihility. The keeper is a three stage fight which is triggered by hailing him. First is a wave of down arrow mobs, then a pair of one-up arrow nightbloods, and finally the Keeper himself. Nothing fancy for a lvl 50 party, but all three waves are green. The most important thing is to be careful with your non encounter AOE,s as hitting the Keeper’s pet will cause him to aggro prematurely and become untargetable (until the two nightbloods die). Slaying the Keeper is required every time you want to get to the deepest part of the zone.

Step 5) Behind the Keeper is a teleporter which takes you to the final area of the Obelisk. The last two runes are located on this floor. As well as other things such as ring events, and named mobs.

Below is an example of what a room without the rett rune looks like. Notice the still hanging chandelier, intact bookcase, and sub level 50 monsters.

This is the Anthenum of Shadows located directly across from the destination room of the teleporter.

This is a Ring type encounter you can do on the lowest floors of the obelisk. There are two rooms with these and they can be recognized because their doors are on the outer walls of the hallways.

This is the door leading to the Keeper of Nihility with the infamous threshold of doom. Don’t get stuck under the door.
