Experience

When you kill an opponent, you gain Experience (XP). XP is put into a pool, and when the pool is full, you gain a level. More about that in the next chapter.

Looting

When you opponent dies it leaves a corpse, or “remains”. Right-click the remains to open a window with any items your opponent might have carried. Click an item in this window to have it moved to your Inventory. Any credits from the remains are automatically transferred to your bank account when you open the loot window.

Healing

Now that you’ve been in combat, you might be injured. While first aid equipment is helpful in battle, the effect from treatment equipment is far better. To use treatment equipment on yourself, sit down, select yourself, and use the treatment equipment. If you started on Rubi-Ka, you will have a Startup Treatment Laboratory. This gives a one-shot boost in health and nano pool. If you started in Shadowlands, you have a Startup Coil of Health. This coil will continue to restore your health and nano pool for as long as you remain sitting.

Death

Dying happens. Luckily it’s not fatal on Rubi-Ka. Due to the notum that exists everywhere on Rubi-Ka and in Shadowlands, a special cloning technology is used to rebuild your body when you die. Your “soul” will locate this body and occupy it, and you can continue as before.

Death has its penalties though. When you’ve reached level 10, your items will no longer be transferred directly to your new body, but need to be picked up at a Reclaim Terminal close to where you’re cloned. When reaching level 15, you will start suffering some sickness when you’re cloned, reducing your skills and abilities for some time.

From level 20, you will suffer from some amnesia when dying. All XP gained since last time you gained a level or last time you used a cell scanner (i.e. bought insurance) will be lost. You will slowly regain this XP while you gain new XP, so it’s not lost forever though.
