Combat - Duelling

September 11th, 2006 by Eva

Duelling is only available to RuneScape Members. Please subscribe to get this feature.

There are many areas in RuneScape where players can fight each other. One of the places where players can face each other in combat is the Duel Arena North-East of Al Kharid. This may be for an agreed stake, or just for fun.

You can challenge players from the walkways that overlook the six duel arenas. Right click on their character and select the ‘Challenge’ option. The other player will then be informed of your request. To accept your duel they must click on your character and select the ‘Challenge’ option.

Please note that the challenge option will only be available when you are standing in an area where the battle axe appears on your screen.

However, if you lose, the other player will get your offered items. If you die through duelling the only items you can lose are those that you may have wagered.

For instance, you might decide that you want to wager your dragon items against your opponent’s warrior ring.

If you just wish to duel in order to see who is the strongest, there is no need to add any items.

From the centre panel of the options screen, players can decide what can and cannot be worn and used in the duel. Clicking on an item slot will disable the use of any items that are worn in that slot. Any items equipped that break these rules will be removed before the duel starts. There are also a number of other options for you to set.

Please note that disabling either one of the hand slots will prevent players from using ANY two-handed weapons. This includes all bows and halberds, and the Granite Maul, amongst others.

No Forfeit: Fed up of your opponent giving up? Then tick this box and make it a fight to the death!
No Movement: Don’t want your opponent running away all the time? Tick this option.
No Ranged: Don’t want someone popping arrows at you? Choose to turn off ranging.
No Melee: Disables all hand-to-hand fighting.
No Magic: Disallows the use of magic in this duel. Good if you want to save your runes for later.
No Drinks: You and your opponent will not be able to drink any type of beverage or potion to boost your stats.
No Food: Don’t want your opponent eating food and healing all the time? Choose No Food.
No Prayer: Disallows the use of prayers in this duel.
No Sp. Atk: High-end weapons have special attacks. This option turns these off.
Fun Weapons: Fun Weapons: Use a fun weapon to defeat your opponent, such as the rubber chicken or flowers.
Obstacles: Are you a ranger or mage? Choose this option! Obstacles may help you to put a barricade between yourself and your opponent.

Once both players are happy with the options they should press the Accept button.

You should read this information carefully, and then, once you are sure you are happy, press the green Accept button to begin the fight.

When the duel starts, you and your opponent will be taken to one of the arenas. Unless No Movement is on you can run around the entire arena. There may be lots of other players fighting, but you will only be allowed to attack your opponent.
A big yellow arrow will be above your opponent’s head so you can easily pick them out. The duel will continue until a player forfeits (if allowed), or until one player has died.

Both players will be taken to the hospital nearby to be healed. The winner can then savour their victory and claim their winnings!
There is a scoreboard located in the duel arena challenging area, which displays the results of a number of recent duels.
