Game Systems: Leisure Activities

May 29th, 2007 by keven

Welcome to Middle-earth! Eriador is a busy place for the adventurer, filled with rights to be wronged, and Orcs to be slain. After a long day of defending the Free Peoples, it’s nice to kick back at the local tavern over a pint of ale and a pipe of finest-quality pipe-weed and just relax. There are actually many leisure activities for the battle-weary fighter to partake in. Just to name a few:

Leisure ActivitiesMusic System
Whether you wish to become an accomplished LOTRO musician, or simply visit the town square to listen to your fellow adventurers play, music is a wonderful way to enjoy a brief respite from the encroaching shadow in the north…

Read our Music Overview for details!

Pipe-weed SmokingLeisure Activities
There’s more to smoking pipe-weed in Middle-earth than blowing simple smoke rings! Seek out the highest-quality pipe-weed, and amaze your friends at the local tavern with elaborate and beautiful smoke effects!

Different varieties of pipe-weed are cultivated by members of the Farmer Profession, so you may wish to engage in the craft yourself, befriend a local farmer, or check the latest auctions for supplies.

Tag
Blow off some steam the non-perilous way - join in a friendly game of tag! See Tad Hollyway (25.6S, 50.9W) in the ruins southeast of the Bree festival grounds. Activate the tag beacon and RUN!

For a “Freeze Tag” version of the game, speak with Biddy Dogwort, who can be found in the ruins just southeast of Tad (26.1S, 49.7W).

Leisure ActivitiesDyeing
They say everybody’s crazy about a sharply-dressed Man, but the same applies to Hobbits, Dwarves, and Elves! Personalize your look by custom-dyeing your clothing and armour in your favorite color.

Dyes are created by members of the Scholar Profession, and the recipes for these dyes can be obtained as loot.

Anyone can apply a dye simply by double-clicking (or right-clicking) on the dye icon, then selecting the item you wish to dye.

Pie-eating Contest
There isn’t a Hobbit alive that would turn down a challenge to a pie-eating contest, but anyone can compete in this delicious diversion! Head on over to the Bree festival grounds in the Northern Bree-fields (24.5S, 51.4W), and talk to Humbert Sandheaver. If you are present when hunger strikes, a pie-eating session will ensue!

These and many other leisure activities can be a fun change of pace - just ask that cat-lady in Bree!… if you can find her… now that I think about it, those cats do look unusually well-fed…
