Picking Your Class–Scouts

June 27th, 2007 by rosehebe

Generally, scouts: are the guys who can dish out DPS while still being able to take hits decently, keep your group moving faster than it normally would, and can hunt down enemies and be alert of nearby enemies using track. All scouts get stealth and evacuate - the former being self-explanatory, the latter being a skill with a 3sec cast time that teleports your group to the nearest safe point. Scouts, however, vary greatly in specifics, which I’ll let you look up (most should be listed below).

      • Really strong against casters, especially due to their offensive stances able to proc an interrupt at 30% rate.WIS AP line allows Rogues to be able to have decent anti-melee capabilityLots of utility (Group stealth, debuffs, taunts, etc)Good DPS (T2)
        • Dispatch - MASSIVE Mit/Resist debuff for 15sec
      • Have MANY debuffs

    • Can track stealthed (read: not invisible) players while in stealth.Very well roundedBrigands are the Freeport rogue class. Though they have the advantages listed above, they’re focused on single-target DPS much more than group-target DPS.Swashbucklers are the Qeynos rogue class. They have more ability to deal damage to groups (AoE) than their Brigand counterparts, albeit still lean towards killing single targets more than groups.

Generally, a Ranger needs to try to keep their opponent(s) snared (or rooted), while maintaining range, to be most effective. This means getting jumped by a melee class can put you in a bad situation.Great at catching runners.Their range is good, but not as large as the range mages have.

    • Best if they “get the jump” on the other playerThey take a bit more skill than some other classes to play their best, due to requiring         stealthing, positioning, etc.Can track invisible (read: not in stealth) players while in stealth.
Assassins are the melee-oriented Predator class, and are restricted to evil-only. Almost all of their strongest attacks are positional, some of which require stealth. This can cause a rookie to have trouble with the class – it’s already somewhat difficult to be able to auto-attack a moving character with the “out of range” issue, but having to get into specific positions to deal their best attacks makes chasing runners even harder. They do have snare, and some CAs that use the bow, but aren’t nearly as good as killing distant targets as Rangers. Due to being close-combat oriented, they’re well-suited for enclosed areas.Rangers are the range-oriented Predator class, restricted to good-only. With their ability to hit hard from a good range, they’re well-suited for open areas, and are very able to kill runners.

        • In-combat revive
      • Best suited for melee/ranged groups (non-caster)

Buffs: Defence, STR, STA, Power regen, HP regen, All resists except disease/poison, casting skills (ordination/disruption/focus/etc), lowers non-fighter group hate, Haste %, dmg proc on melee attacks
Debuffs: Mental resists, Divine resists, Str/Agi, ?????
    • Bards, essentially, make everyone in the group stronger. They can buff things like mana regen, dps, and run speed.Groups have to stay together - songs have a maximum range. (Then again, if your group is so unorganized they’re getting out of range of the bard often, do you really want to group with them in PvP?)
      Dirges
      Troubadors

  • Rogues(Brigand[E], Swashbuckler[G])Predators(Assassin[E], Ranger[G])Bards(Dirge, Troubador) I’m not sure how they fare in PvP, though from what I’ve heard they’re pretty decent (albeit not the best). Obviously best in a group situation.
