Player Spotlight – Caerwynn
September 7th, 2007 by keven

Forum Handle: Caerwynn
Main Character Name: Caerwynn
Server: Europe-Chimaera
Player Association: Dune Sea Desperadoes (SEA)
Where in the real life world do you live? I live in the United Kingdom.
How long have you played Star Wars Galaxies? Since early May 2003, I don’t remember the exact date, but there was a publish shortly after I started and was too much of a nub to ask what a ‘publish’ was!
What other MMOs have you played? I have tried most of them, starting with Diablo 1 and 2, EverQuest II, World of Warcraft, The Matrix Online, Dungeons and Dragons beta, and Vanguard beta - all of which convinced me that SWG has the best RP environment of them all.
What type of work do you do? I am self-employed.
How long is your typical gaming session when playing Star Wars Galaxies? Around five hours a day, it’s easy to lose track of time when playing!
What does a typical Star Wars Galaxies day consist of for you? Depending on which character I log in with first - it might be one of my crafters. My Zabrak architect always complains about the sales from her vendor, and she gets even more annoyed if someone is standing next to her buying items whilst she is restocking! It’s a standing joke with the guild, but in reality I enjoy crafting RP items where I rename items for decoration. Component analysis tools make excellent datapads, for example. I might do some flying, I enjoy helping with space missions. As I am the guild leader for SEA, I will have also have mails to check and respond to queries about the guild, RP and the forums I’m involved with. Then I’m up for some RP on whichever my characters is needed for a plot or story arc.
What was the race and profession of your very first character? Human scout. Caerwynn was my first character and after tinkering about in the days when we could easily mix and match professions I finally settled on Master Dancer/Teras Kasi Artist, which fit her background to a T. She is still an entertainer and also has her combat abilities back.
What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most? It was friends that got me involved with Diablo and it just snowballed from there. MMOs fascinated me, I couldn’t believe it was possible for so many people to be online and interacting together. It still gives me a buzz to see people from all over the world attending our events and having fun!
What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other then playing Star Wars Galaxies? I have been doing Pilates for six years now. I also enjoy going to the cinema, the theatre and time out with my husband.
What is your highest character level in Star Wars Galaxies? All my characters are CL 90, on Chimaera, apart from a character slot I keep free for a disposable character for RP plots. I have a Caerwynn on most servers now, for cantina crawls, and a couple of characters on TC Prime for times when Chimaera is down for extended maintenance.
What race and profession is your main character? Caerwynn is human and an entertainer, a mix of Artiste and Combat so that she can self buff as well as buff guild members out in the field. With the CU and the NGE gradually stripping her of her TKA background, and then combat all together, it was great to have them restored with Chapter 5.
What do you like the most about the profession you have chosen for your main character? I enjoy the social aspect of the game and have got to know so many people through entertaining, but also have the ability to go off and join in with guild activities too. The best of both worlds.
What faction is your main character? She is a Rebel, although ideally she would fit into a neutral faction better. I always support the calls for a third faction when I see them on the forums.
What is your favorite player owned ship? It has to be the A wing, but since the introduction of the Rage of the Wookiees expansion, it’s rather overshadowed by the newer ships, sadly. So I fly a Belbullab-22 most often, or the Belababy, the nickname given to it by a guild member as I can never remember how to spell it!
What is your favorite ground vehicle? Does a jetpack count as a ground vehicle? If not then it’s the AV-21, introducing the ability to carry a passenger made journeys a lot more fun. However, I get teased mercilessly about my driving, but it’s the lag that causes trees to leap out into my path, honest!
How did you choose your main character’s name? I thought I had created a unique name when I combined two Welsh words Caer (castle/fort) and Wyn (white), only to find it was far from unique.
Which current professions in Star Wars Galaxies have you NOT played? I’ve not played an officer, but over the years, I’ve played all the current professions in one form or another over various characters. Entertainer has to be the most versatile, even if it’s not the strongest combat profession. Very occasionally I contemplate respeccing away from it but I love dancing too much!
What is your favorite expansion? Jump to Lightspeed, without question! I’d never played flight sims before but I loved JTL and still do. I use a mouse rather than a joystick as I couldn’t get the hang of using one. I can be heard muttering on TS occasionally for the opposing faction to stop flying for a bit so that I can blow them to smithereens, but I don’t think I’m too bad a pilot. I admit that I’m useless against capitol ships, it’s the dog fights I love. There is a mission where wave on wave of fighters come at the pilot with the mission and his wingman (or woman) has to distract them whilst he/she heads for the rendezvous point, that mission is one of the best in the game. I don’t know how many times I’ve helped with the vette, but that is still enjoyable and I get a buzz when we have helped someone get his/her Master’s ticket.
What is your favorite planet? Hmm, a bit of a tough one. I spend most of my time on Tatooine roleplaying and it almost feels like home. The sandstorms are one of the best effects in the game, in my opinion. Endor is probably my next favourite as it has some beautiful spots hidden away and they really need searching out. It also has Ewoks who are the cutest things in all the films and the game.
What is your favorite NPC? My favourite character in the films is Han Solo, so that translates to the game too. I just wish he was a little taller though.
Which expansion do you like the least? I disliked Rage of the Wookiees the most. I’m not a quester and having my roaming restricted to being unlocked by quests was frustrating. I still haven’t finished most of the quests.
Which planet do you like the least? Until Trials of Obi-Wan came out, it was Rori, so damp and gloomy. But Mustafar doesn’t have anything attractive about it for me, no sunrises, no sunsets and just about everything aggros.
Which NPC do you like the least? Oola! After all these years she hasn’t learnt to flourish. I even mailed her my Exotic macro, but she obviously fails at those too!
What is the most credits you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters? Hmm, hard to say, but I think I’ve yet to spend the most amount as I’m in the market for a 57-60 point pet.
Do you have an item you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons? If so what is it and why do you keep it? My entire house is full of things I keep for nostalgic reasons: my first anniversary painting, my Ewok holopet, my Nyms enhanced VK, my Victory poster that serves as a loo door and ideal for darts practice, a Maroj melon, the list could go on and on! I’m something of a hoarder and am looking forward to the extra storage capacity coming up soon with the mini game. Needless to say, the reward storage deed has been put to good use!
What do you like best about Star Wars Galaxies? The rich roleplaying environment, my guild and friends, being be able to create events and plots for which Storyteller has opened up so many more options. Also little details that you have to just stand and admire sometimes, the art work really is outstanding, even after four years, a long time in gaming terms. Of all the games I’ve played, SWG has the best community.
What do you get out of playing Star Wars Galaxies? A lot of fun and enjoyment.
Describe your best experience playing Star Wars Galaxies. Where to start? There are so many, but I think the thing that guild remembers most too is the day they rendered me speechless on TS. It was the guild’s first anniversary party and they presented me with jetpack, I was stunned and overwhelmed!
Do you run or work for a Star Wars Galaxies Fan Site? I don’t, no.
