Introduction

Beneath some of RuneScape’s more populous towns and villages hide the ratcatchers, a dispersed raggle-taggle group of gamblers and other low lives. Enter their subterranean world and test your cats Wily-ness.
Each ratpit caters for a different stage in your cats development - kitten, grown, overgrown and Wily. The rules may vary between pits, however the base rules are the same. Two players agree to duel against each other and set a wager, which the winner receives at the end of the match. To win a ratpit challenge, a set number of rats must be killed. The player whose cat achieves this first will be declared the winner. If your cat dies or runs away from the fight, the opposing player will then win. If your cat dies you will lose your cat, however, if your cat runs from the fight you will still have the same cat.

Use the up or down arrows on the screen to set your wager that your pet could win. There is a minimum bet of 100gp per fight. Players have to bet the same amount as their opponent. A confirmation screen will be shown after you have set your wager, to give you the option to back out of the challenge. Should you accept, your pet will enter the pit and start attacking rats.
The amount of rats that have to be caught depends on which pit you enter.

These are the different fighting tactics your cat can adopt whilst catching the rats in the pit.
Just take care of yourself
This option causes your cat to adopt a VERY CAUTIOUS approach. Your cat can run away from the fight when choosing this approach.
Stay in for as long as you can
This option causes your cat to adopt a CAUTIOUS approach. Your cat can run away from the fight when choosing this approach.
No guts, no glory
This option causes your cat to adopt an OFFENSIVE approach. There is a chance that your cat may die with this option.
Go berserk
This option causes your cat to adopt an VERY OFFENSIVE approach. There is a chance that your cat may die with this option.
Choosing the options very cautious or cautious maybe a wise choice for the less experienced players to the pits and will guarantee that you will not lose your cat in the fight. However, if you choose the offensive or very offensive approaches your cat will stay in the pit and have a ‘fight to the death’. So with these approaches, be aware that you may lose your cat if it dies.
Keep in mind, the level of each pit you enter (from the Kitten pit up to the Wily cat pit) will increase in difficulty. The rats will not go down easily, so make sure your cat uses the best tactical option in the right pit!
Losing
![[image]](http://www.runescape.com/img/kbase/minigames/ratpits/cat_defeated.gif)
Unfortunately, you can’t win them all. When gambling you have to remember, losing is all part of the risk. If your cat does lose there could be different reasons for this - your cat runs away or dies.
Your cat can only run away if you choose the tactical options very cautious, or cautious. Running out of hitpoints is the cause of your cat dying. As a result, you will lose the wager you made at the beginning of the game.
Drawing
Each game has a time limit of two minutes. After the two minutes has expired, if neither player’s cat has caught the required amount of rats the game will be declared a draw and each player will receive their wager back.

Winning | ![]() |
If your pet is victorious, either by catching the required number of rats before your opponent, or by default because your opponents cat dies or runs away, your cat will be declared the winner. You will then win your wager back as well as your opponents.
Before you play, make sure you know the rules and risks well before you risk your moggies tail.
