Introduction

Dare you enter an epic maze of deadly traps, fiendish obstacles and devious puzzles? Will you make it to the centre and claim the rewards that have been locked away from all but the sneakiest players?

Find out when you visit the Burthorpe Inn and discover the Rogues’ Den!

You will need to keep your wits about you - with more than 440 devilish traps covering an area five times the size of Lumbridge, it will tax even the nimblest of rogues.

Location

The Rogues’ Den is located under the Toad and Chicken pub in Burthorpe, simply locate the bar and you will see a trapdoor behind it. Go down this trapdoor, walk through the first door and you are in the main/safe area.

Here you will find 3 characters to talk to, Brian O’Richard, Martin Thwait and Emerald Benedict.

Brian O’Richard is the owner of the maze and will explain about it to you. Brian will also give you a gem to gain access to the maze itself. At any time you can activate this gem for help.

Martin Thwait owns a Lost and Found store, he sells useful items including stethoscopes, to help with your chances of picking the safes. For more information on the safe/thieving area, view the Thieving - Extra Features page.

Finally, Emerald Benedict will help with your items, as he is a banker.

Skill\quest requirements

Anyone can enter through the pub to the area, but to use the Rogues’ Den Maze itself, you must have at least 50 agility and 50 Thieving.

If you wish to cut down on the time in the maze, 80 thieving is necessary to use the shortcuts.

Recommended items

No Items will be allowed in the maze, other that the items you get from the maze and the enchanted jewel that is given to you by Brian O’Richard.

[image]The Jewel will give help, if or when you get stuck in the maze

Finding the centre of the maze

When you have spoken to Brian O’Richard and accepted the challenge of the maze, he will give you the gem to help you out, if you get stuck.

Entering the grill to the north with only this gem in your inventory, will allow you to pass through it. If you are wearing or carrying anything else, Brian will not allowed you entry. There is a banker here to store your items, should you wish to enter.

Entering the grill, the challenge has begun.

Please note that in many areas, there are doors to the ‘viewing area’. If you enter this, you will forfeit your progress in the maze. When you enter the viewing area, you are ‘above’ the maze, so you can watch the progress of others, or even plan your route.

The Maze is described in the following map:

For each obstacle you encounter your skills will be drained, so pick your routes wisely. Think of your total agility and thieving levels as points to spend, each obstacle will drain a different amount. If you are using more agility obstacles than thieving, you may find the challenge harder as you go on.

Your Agility and Thieving levels will not restore like normal, so waiting for them to do so is not advised. If you happen to run out of points, you will fail the obstacle and be returned to the entrance.

Agility Obstacles

Contortion bars are simple enough to get around, simply click on the option to enter them, and you will pass through, taking away 5 Agility Levels from you.

For beating the Pendulem, 3 agility points will be taken. To pass it, simply click the other side, and your character will time the jump through.

For the price of 4 Agility points, you can easily cross the log from one side to another.

The risk of jumping a blade takes more than courage, it will require 3 Agility points to take the leap of faith.

For each hold you traverse, an Agility point will be taken, so for this entire ledge, 4 Aglity points will be taken. (7 on a later ledge)

The risk of jumping a blade takes more than courage, it will require 3 Agility points to take the leap of faith.

For daring and surviving the deadly leap under a spinning sawblade, 3 Agility points will taken from your total.

These spinning blades are deadly to your efforts in the maze, avoid them at all costs. No points can be deducted from you, but being touched by a blade like this will fail the maze instantly.

The second deadly spinning blades, again avoid these at all costs by hiding in the alchoves nearby, if you are touched by them, you will instantly fail the maze.

Thieving Obstacles

This floor trap will take you straight out of the rogues maze if you fail them. For de-activating them, 1 Thieving point will be taken.

Failing to search these walls will take you straight out of the rogues maze if you fail them. For de-activating them, 1 Thieving point will be taken.

These will require a level 80 Thief to open, will give access to a shortcut in the maze, or further treasure chances. For successfully picking the lock, 10 Thieving points will be taken.

Puzzle Doors

Dependant on the route you take in the Maze, you may encounter a puzzle door.

The first puzzle will look like this:

To solve this puzzle, see that each knob on the puzzle can turn. When you click it, every knob connected to that one will turn in the opposite direction. To get the door open, use your wits to get all the knobs to point up.

The second puzzle door is located in a room with puzzle pieces:

[image][image][image][image]

Clicking the door will open up the puzzle.

This puzzle door is literally a puzzle! A piece is missing and the pieces you have are displayed. Click the correct one for the pattern and the door will open. Failing the puzzle will trigger a trap and you will fail the maze.

If at any point you fail the maze, you will be teleported out unharmed and will have to start again if you wish to make it to the center. You will still be awarded experience to skills for how far you got.

Before you make it to the center of the maze, you will have to get past some guards (if you didnt already on a different path).

To get past these guards, pick up the nearby Flash powder (look for red dots on your minimap). With this in your inventory, click on it to ‘use’ it and then select the guard before he gets too close. Your character will throw the powder which will stun the guard, now run as fast as you can past him.

Now you have made it past the obstacles to the center of the maze, you will be confronted with the safes.

Simply chose a safe and click it to pick it open and then gain your prize!

Rewards

Now you have picked the safe, you will be teleported out and congratulated by Brian. You will also receive experience in Thieving and Agility. The further you get into the maze, the higher this experience will be.

Be warned, you can fail the final safe and get no loot from it. Persistance will get you the items you seek.

Items you can gain from the safe are the pieces of Rogue armour, which is untradable and provides stats towards all defence bonuses, although mainly it is a status symbol to show your skills as a rogue!

Aside from the Rogue armour, you may get a (stackable) ‘Rogue Kit’, for all of your Rogue needs.

When clicked, the following will appear and you can create any of the items to replace the kit in your inventory, perfect for when exploring new areas, not knowing what you will need to take!
