This guide will teach you how to create a guild everything from gaming to getting a website set up. I will teach the basics and other important information so you can make the guild you`re looking for.

1. Planning and organizing your guild
There are many different ways to plan and organize a guild. I will go over the basic ways guilds are usually started.

Gaming community/.Multi game guild - You`ll see time from time a gaming community will come to a game with five to twenty people that all know each other. They usually played many games together before and are apart of some community. They tend to form guilds and there usually very stable and work really well if planned right.

Group of friends - All the time a group of friends come to a new game and form a guild. Most guilds are formed this way in almost every game. This will work depending on who`s the leader and who`s actually doing the work.

Break offs- another kind is a break off guild which is formed from another guild. Usually this is bad, and I mean real bad. Most times it`s an officer or some authority figure in another guild that breaks off causing a split and forms his own guild. Usually one of the two will be destroyed or crippled in the process.

Random guy/Fresh start- A random guy looking to meet friends makes a guild. He invites people as he goes or whom he sees. These do work, it depends on who the leader/random guy is. Usually if one person makes a guild it`s a little harder to start but will work out in the end.

Another aspect of planning is having `tools`to help you run and manage your guild. Such as having VOIP programs like teamspeak or ventrilo. Both have there ups and downs so its up to you what will fit our guild. Website and forum is the big issue with some guilds. You will think I am crazy, but having a forum is almost more important than having a website. Communication is the key when running a successful guild. Try and get a forum. There plenty of good free-hosted ones out there. If your guild leader goes to www.vanguardsoh.com, the official vanguard players website, they will provide a basic website.

The Name
When you got all you`re planning done its time to choose a name with your fellow creators. This is up to you on what you want to have as a name, but its good to be creative!

2. How to make a guild in vanguard
To make a guild, go to a guild recruiter and buy a guild charter for one silver. You will need a full group of five, including you. Right click the book in your inventory to choose a name, then hit okay. You will become a leader and the other five will automatically be officers. It`s up to you if you want them to stay officers or not. Officers can do a lot from inviting to kicking. That`s not a rank you just give out.

The guild registrar`s shop should look similar to this:

Guild ranks
The guild comes with a built in rank structure its up to you on how you want to use it. It`s very important you choose the right people for these ranks, as these are the people who will be running your guild. Out of the five ranks, only two have great impact of power. The officer and the leader have powers that can change the guild greatly. Make sure you can trust anyone who even steps foot in those positions.

Initiate - When you first join the guild you start at this rank. It depends on how your guild is run on what this rank means and dose. Usually this rank is like a trial period rank before you become a full member of a guild.

Member - This is the rank that follows up from initiate. This rank (depending on the hierarchy of your guild) is usually the base of all the members. Meaning this is the average.

Elder - This is like a senior member so to speak, meaning he has more trust and power over a normal member. He can promote people from initiate to member.

Officer - this is a high up position with great importance. Depending on how the guild is ran this could mean many different things. They can invite, kick, change motd, and promote people to members.

Leader - This is the top he can do anything that is listed and even promote people to officers and even to leaders! Having multiple of these is good, but try and not to have too many.

The guild management window should look similar to this:

3. What kind of guild are you running?
The type of guild really will matter recruiting wise. This also determines what kind of players you will get in the guild.

Here are some examples of some different types.

PVP - There are some guilds like on the pvp server Varking that are based around killing other players. These guilds are usually ether pretty small to pretty big of really good pvpers.

Raid/Adventuring - These guilds are based off of leveling adventuring and taking down hard mobs such as raid mobs and other things. They are usually pretty big and well organized. This is a very popular type.

Crafting - These type of guild do crafting which is a major component of vanguard. Vanguard is at the point were you`d ether need a lot of crafter`s in your guild or have an entire guild based upon crafting. Consult a crafting guide.

Mixed - A mixed bit of everything. This is one of the best and most successful types. These guilds can range from nothing to really organized so choose wisely!

Role playing - Role playing guilds are guilds made up of role players. Role playing guilds are more popular on the PvE servers but tend to also be on PvP servers.

Community/family - This guide type is very popular and most guilds are this. It`s all about making friends and having a good time. This is a very effective type.

4. Recruiting for your guild
Recruiting is a major role you must play as the leader of your guild. There`s plenty of different ways to find new members and to make new friends. Having a good recruiting plan helps find members for your guild. There`s about a ton of information about recruiting so I`ll break it down to the basics:

Fan site forums - This is a good way to get members or let people know you`re out there. Most fan site forums have a place to advertise your guild and get it known in the Vanguard world. Vanguard WarCry actually has an area for this.

Shouting and using OOC chat - This is a somewhat effective way. People may not be happy with you just shouting in chat. It may make you enemies, and having enemies is not what you want. Putting people off means that they`re less likely to join your guild.

Sending tells- This is a little bit better than shouting since it`s more one-on-one. If you do this, please be polite as you can never go wrong with being polite.

Grouping - As you group with people in the game, you`ll likely find some who are interested in joining your guild after having interacted with you.

Here are some different kinds of recruiting plans.

Invite Only- Some guilds out there only one people they know. This is usually for tighter guilds and it`s usually done by a well organized one. This is a good method but it`s not a good starting method. Unless you got twenty people at the start of your guild I do not recommend this.

Application- Some guilds will allow people to join only if they register and/or send in an application with the details. This is an excellent way of having a guild recruitment process set up. But, again this in the best to start with unless you have at least twenty people pre-planned

Anyone/open door- This is how most guilds start. This often includes the shout and sending tells method of recruiting. Who knows, you may meet some new people that may become your best friends one day.

5. Guild infrastructure
The whole point of a guild is to have a bunch of friends and fellow players under one roof, so to speak. The term `infrastructure` can mean a lot of different things. It usually means how stable a guild is. Stability is very important to a guild. If you`re not stable then you will not last long. A sample of a stable guild would have a website/forum and VOIP server. I will also explain some common ways guilds are run. There are plenty ways an actual guild is ran. Usually there`s only one leader but sometimes there`s more than one. The benefit of having more than one leader is to spread the workload or to share power. Sharing power makes you look less like a dictator.
